The first thing I spoke after reading Thank You M'am was " Is this for real? ". You will never, ever see a situation like in the story in the real world. All the time, when people, even myself encounter a situation like this, the scene would be: panic, police being called, getting freaked out and possibly, get some help from people nearby, that would be it. The story seems to be very fictitious for me. But I think the author would like to point out that there maybe people in the world left who does not and see or do things on the other side. For me, the author wants the readers to see that in a crazy and unexpected world we have now, there are still people who gives trust in a unique way. The author wants the readers to be like Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.
What I love in the story is Mrs. Jones' character, she's so smart. She speaks very creative. The fact that she took care of Roger for a short span of time was amazing. She trusted the boy so fast that she treated him like her own son. It's really rare to see that in the real world. For other people, their perspective would be, there's more to life than trusting other people. It does make sense but Mrs. Jones acted the opposite way. Hence, the author wants the readers to get the idea that when being in a situation like in the story, you should not rush; see what's the suspect's reason behind and see if there's a way for you to help, that's the good part for me.
But the bad part in the story for me was for the readers rather those doing crimes to still pursue what they're doing. Because in the story, it's not what you expect. They may think that there maybe still people who are like Mrs. Jones. And they took the advantage. They will think that, " let's steal " or do such crimes because people will react in the opposite way, like Mrs. Jones. So it kind of corrupts the mind of those people, if they might read the story.
But I still like the story. Actually, I was smiling after reading it also. It's quite a peculiar story, that sees the idea that sometimes we should try to do things in the opposite way.
